Less than a mile from Kent's county town of Maidstone, Turkey Mill is a stunning wedding venue hidden away behind a small business park. Parts of the site date back to the eighteenth century, but the venue itself is all quite new.
The first thing you'll see once you arrive at Turkey Mill is likely to be the Whatman Room. This sumptuous reception room has been named after James Whatman, who owned Turkey Mill from 1740 to 1792, during which time it was the largest paper mill in the country. The room itself would not look out of place in a costume drama and has lovely big windows which let the afternoon sunlight pour in.
Once you make your way through to the main venue your breath will be taken away by the magnificent gardens. In total there are 9 acres of garden at Turkey Mill, featuring a lake, a waterfall and a small stream and as many lawns and beautifully kept flower displays as you could wish for! They really do have to be seen to be appreciated.
Ceremonies at Turkey Mill currently take place in the custom built Garden Room, which was built in 2010. Five double doors span the front wall of the room, allowing the ceremonies to take place in full view of the beautiful gardens and a large skylight in the ceiling allows you to enjoy the best of the weather whilst having the assurance that you are indoors in case the British weather is being traditionally unreliable.
From a photographer's point of view, this venue has so much to offer. The gardens and lakes are stunning and really do provide more photo opportunities than it would be feasible to take advantage of in one day! On top if this, the newly built Garden Room, with it's large skylight, ensures that there will always be plenty of light for great photos of your ceremony. The Orangery, where the reception takes place, is also very well lit with plenty of natural light pouring in through the doors and windows. Turkey Mill is definitely one of my favourite venues to work at.
